April 15, 2008 - Thomas Anderson, 59, a Seminole High School teacher, was arrested Tuesday, charged with felony inteference of child custody. 
Police say Anderson asked a 16-year-old high school student to skip class with him. According to deputies, Anderson told administrators that he had a doctor's appointment. Detectives say Anderson picked up the student off campus and drove her to his home. Once there, Anderson had the teen massage his back, legs and chest.
Deputies say the victim then asked to be taken home and Anderson dropped the girl off near her home. She reported the incident to a school counselor.

April 16 - Anderson denied the girl's claims.
He told school district officials that he left early that day to see a doctor. He told authorities he saw the girl walking off campus and knew she had personal problems, so he offered to take her to his house to talk."During school hours, a student "is in the custody of the school," sheriff's spokeswoman Cecelia Barreda said. "The school is entrusted with the care of the child."

Before Anderson's resignation, superintendent Clayton Wilcox had recommended that he be fired. He was hired in 1973 to teach at Clearwater High School. He resigned in 1980, was re-hired in 1983 as a teacher at Dunedin Highland Middle School. He resigned again in 1984 and was re-hired as a substitute teacher in 1995. He came to Seminole the following year.
Anderson also coached the girls' basketball team had been accused of a similar offense before, according to school district records. In 1999, a student who had been his teacher assistant at Seminole High filed a complaint against him for rubbing her shoulders and lower back, documents in his disciplinary file revealed.
Anderson denied the charges and kept his job in exchange for a promise there would be "no touching of any female in any way that could be interpreted as inappropriate."
