For child pornography. Although probation for having 50 images of children, as young as infants, engaged in sexual acts including sexual penetration and bondage looks like inept prosecution. Wayne D. Kuklinski was not even ordered to register as a sex offender. He has to stay away from children, except his grandchildren. Go figure. Did we mention police found three guns? (Illinois)

Rising star, union-affiliated, school board member Nathaniel B. Thomas submitted his resignation, a day after being indicted. Mr. Thomas had been scheduled for a public hearing with the state board later this month to contest his removal. He's charged with sex with a male student. He's also being investigated for taking an 18-year-old boy to a conference without the parents' permission. A school board member had to drive to the conference to bring the boy back. A Texas teacher was accused of stalking, threatening, and making un-wanted contact with a co-worker. Mark Taylor, 43, was charged with charged with stalking, simple battery, harassing phone calls, and influencing a witness. We get e-mails asking why we don't limit arrests to teachers or administrator arrested for sex with students. The reason is simple. The best teacher in the world teaches by example, and the most brilliant teacher in the world isn't, if their personal life teaches the worst lessons. TT - Link

In Utah. It took two trials, but a jury found Alan Roy Willey guilty of the sexual abuse of a fourth-grade student dating back to the 1990s. It seems strange for the newspaper to refer to the 24-year-old man as the "alleged" victim after the conviction. Similar criminal charges were filed against Willey in 1988-90 but were dismissed. Not this time. It takes guts to do what is right, no matter how long it takes.

over the age of consent. It has been a felony in Texas since 2003. Louisiana wants to make it a misdemeanor, but it's a start. It would mean automatic firing and, hopefully, the automatic loss of their teaching license. (Something the public has no guarantee of now.) TT - Link

Union Tactics
It's always despicable when unions enlist children and students to hold up signs in labor protests. The only other people who regularly rely on children to carry their banners are Marxists in Africa or Southeast Asia. Whether the union created the signs or just told teachers to announce they wouldn't be back in the fall in classrooms, it doesn't reflect well on any of them. Sending out press releases so media show up to simultaneously film the spectacle, however, smacks of pre-planning and cunning that you wish they'd devote to lesson plans. TT - Link
