A male teacher in the Batavia School District would return to school in the fall as a woman. The district did not identify the person, only to say he is a science teacher. Some parents were concerned. When students returned to school, they met with counselors in small groups to learn more about the transgender issue.If we believe the Associated Press story in the Philadelphia Inquirer (Nov 26, 2006) Schools are adjusting to transgender teachers. The article begins with "From coast to coast, students, parents and educators are grappling with a new classroom challenge: What to do when Mr. McBeth comes to school as Miss McBeth." And the good news? People are adjusting and getting used to transgender teachers. (Or maybe they just home school?)
Update on story. McBeth is still a substitute teacher.
