If teaching isn't the answer, maybe bribery is.
April 21, 2008 - Linden High School wants to improve student achievement on standardized tests.
They're offering to increase of an entire letter grade on their report card in math and English, for students who test proficient or above. [Proficient means at grade level.]
For example, a junior earning a B in their coursework can improve to an A if they do well on the standardized tests. Also, if students test below basic or far below basic on a math test, that child's parents will receive a phone call recommending, although not requiring, that the student re-take algebra.
Students who test well and already have an A in their course work will be rewarded with a class trip.
