Licensing Fees

March 4, 2008 - Teachers Teachers unions in Ohio are complaining about the licensing fees tripling to $200.

Education department officials say they need additional money to implement tougher procedures to detect teacher misconduct, and that the icreases will barely pay for the additional staff and technology the department needs.

Cleveland Plain Dealer: (Mar 1) The $200 is for a five-year license. The last substantial fee increase was 14 years ago, though a minimal increase was enacted in 2000. The licensing office is self supporting.

Under a law passed by the legislature last year, just about everyone who works in a school - public or private - must have a criminal-history check by the FBI and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation. Teachers will pay $46 for the fingerprint check.

Teacher licensing fees in Nevada are $161. Renewal $80. They will not take personal checks.

Teacher certification fees in Idaho are $75. Renewal $75. (both five years.)
"Not more than thirty-three percent of the fees may be used by the state department of education to partially defray the cost of the office of certification."

Certification fees in Louisiana are $50. One year. They take check or money order.

Renewal in Utah is $60. They take checks.

Certification in Alaska is $125. Renewal is $125. Both non-refundable.
