March 3, 2008 - Florida legislators are looking at tougher penalties on teachers who are found guilty of misconduct, and school districts that fail to report.
More than 4,000 cases in the 2006-2007 school year were reviewed by the Bureau of Professional Practices, which is under the Florida Department of Education. According to Sen Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, chairman of the Senate Education Committee, that's a 21 percent increase in the past two years.
