LAWSUIT
Feb 8, 2008 - A Federal judge awarded $3 million to the family of a student molested by middle school teacher Charles Andrews when she was in eighth-grade.
Andrews taught at Hueytown's Pittman Middle School. Andrews surrendered his teaching license March 1, 2006, after he had pleaded guilty in Jefferson County Circuit Court in February 2006 to second-degree sexual abuse. He was sentenced to two years' probation.

TT - It was a default judgement; he didn't show up in court. The school district and principal were dismissed from the suit. The award is largely symbolic because chances are that he doesn't have the money and they can follow him around like he was O.J., but they won't get much. However, they can make sure he never owns property in his own name for the rest of his life.
