Jan 14, 2008 - David Cherry, 38, a teacher at Staunton River High School, was arrested Jan 8 and charged with three counts of sodomy and one count of taking indecent liberties with an underage girl.

The incidents are alleged to have happened in the fall of 2005

Cherry was suspended Sept. 6 after a complaint was made against him. Cherry resigned Sept 17 while the school system was investigating the complaint.

Bedford County Sheriff's Office investigators received a complaint on October 1, 2007, of possible improper conduct by a former teacher towards a former student at Staunton River High School.

Bedford County Sheriff's investigators along with Bedford County Social Services Child Protective investigators and officials with the Bedford County School System investigated the complaint.

After a lengthy investigation, David Allen Cherry, age 38, 1324 Oak Lawn Drive, Forest, Va., was arrested on January 8, 2008 and charged with three counts of sodomy and one count of indecent liberties with a minor. The incidents allegedly occurred during the fall of 2005. The investigation is still on-going.

PRELIMINARY Feb 28 - In a preliminary court hearing in Bedford County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court on Tuesday, Judge Philip Arthur Wallace found probable cause in the case against David Allen Cherry, 38, of Forest. Charges against Cherry will be heard by a grand jury in April.
