Paris, ILLINOIS

Nov 1, 2007 - Frederick W. Fischer, 28, a Paris High School math teacher, was arrested and charged with criminal sexual assault. The charge alleges Fischer had sex with a 17-year-old female student.

Although Illinois law places the age of consent at 17, this case hinges on the allegation that Fischer abused his position of authority over the student.
The school superintendent made this odd comment,
“[Fischer] was immediately removed from the classroom for his protection as well as the students’,” said Sutton.
[Shouldn't students come first in that sentence?]

Fischer, who was accompanied by a union representative, asked the court to set the bond as low as possible. “I have no priors, and I’m not a flight risk,” claimed Fischer. A preliminary is scheduled for Nov 26.

NOT GUILTY PLEA Nov 27 - Fischer waived a preliminary hearing in the case and entered a not guilty plea. A pre-trial is scheduled for conference on Jan 28.
