Brooklyn, NEW YORK

August 10, 2007 - The principal of the Arabic-themed New York public school - Khalil Gibran International Academy in Brooklyn - has resigned. She was roundly condemned for failing to condemn the use of the highly charged word "intifada" on T-shirts.

Despite that, the city's Department of Education says it's still committed to launching the school in September.
