Mar 16, 2007 - Chad Smith, 27, a Delight High School coach, was charged with first degree sexual assault against a 14-year-old student from the school. The girl is reportedly a member of his softball team. The arrest comes after a two-week investigation.

He was released on a $50,000 bond. Arraignment is scheduled for Mar 19.

GUILTY PLEA & SENTENCING March 14, 2008 - Smith pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree sexual assault in a case involving a 14-year-old team member. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison -- with six years suspended -- and was banned as a teacher. Smith will be required to serve at least two years in prison and will be required to register as a sex offender.
