Nov 20, 2006 - Melissa Chase, 28, softball coach at Harlem High School, was arrested and charged with having sex with a 16-year-old student. The girl was not named. Chase has resigned. The mother of the girl found love letters and notified police.
The age of consent in Georgia is 16, but Georgia has a law, like Texas, that specifically prohibits sexual contact between a teacher and a student, no matter what the age.
June 30, 2007 - CONVICTED Chase was convicted in a bench trial by a judge. Brown ordered Chase to be jailed after her conviction. A sentencing date has not been set.
