October 22, 2008 - After $100,000 in stolen goods was found in a drug raid, Haven Middle School janitor Rengay Frazier, 37, was arrested. Along with two brothers who were arrested for stolen goods found in a house they shared. Police found ten guns during a drug raid on the house. Rengay faces drug charges from the raid. Burglary charges are pending.

That's when parents found out about his criminal record. He was convicted of battery in 1996, according to records. In 1988, Frazier was found guilty of felony criminal damage to property. He had also been charged with retail theft and burglary twice, but had never been convicted.

Despite that, he was hired by the school in 2004. Superintendent Hardy Murphy told the board the district was aware of Frazier's record when they hired him, said board member Bonnie Lockhart. At the time of his hiring, the district thought Frazier had been "rehabilitated," she said.

And in September 2004, the president of the district's teachers union was arrested when he arranged to meet for a sexual encounter with an undercover police officer whom he thought was a teenage student.
