Sentenced to life in prison and designated a sexual predator.
July 8, 2008 - David A. Lamont, 61, was sentenced to a mandatory life prison term for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy. He was also given 30 years in prison for lewd and lascivious molestation of the same child, a sentence that will run concurrently to the first count. Lamont was also designated a sexual predator.
A jury in May found Lamont guilty of one count of sexual battery on a person younger than 12.
Lamont was a former Marion County Public Schools employee who worked as a teacher's aide at Hillcrest School for three years beginning in 1993 and at Lake Weir High School as a substitute teacher in 1987. The offenses occurred between 2004 and December 2006 when two brothers were left in his care. Lamont was charged in December 2006.
