National City, CALIFORNIA

July 16, 2008 - Craig Kelso, 38, a teacher at Granger Junior High, was arrested Tuesday, accused of having a sexual relationship with a a 15-year-old girl at the school. Kelso had disappeared several days ago after the molestation allegations surfaced.

A threat to his estranged wife, a teacher at Otay Ranch High School, prompted a one-hour lockdown earlier in the day. Police officers from Chula Vista and National City circled the campus with pistols and shotguns drawn as helicopters flew overhead. The lockdown was lifted about 3:30 p.m.

NBC San Diego (July 15) Kelso was booked into San Diego County Jail. He is charged with 22 counts of child molestation, three counts of sodomy and seven counts of unlawful sex with a minor. His bail was set at $900,000. Police did not say how they found out about the alleged sexual relationship, but they began their investigation last week.

GUILTY PLEA September 8 - Kelso pleaded guilty to having sex with a minor, committing a lewd act on a child 14 or 15 years old and oral copulation on a person under 16. The plea agreement calls for four years and four months in state prison.

Eighteen other charges, including trying to dissuade a witness from reporting a crime, were dismissed as a result of Kelso's guilty plea. He will be sentenced October 7.
