July 1, 2008 - Charles Whedbee, 41, a social studies teacher at Pasquotank County High School, was arrested and faces three counts of indecent liberties with a minor and one count of statutory sex offense

Whedbee was charged in May with three counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor but when he was arrested today on the same charges it was on a higher felony class. This was after the grand jury returned bills for three class F felony counts of indecent liberties and one count of statutory sex offense. When he was originally charged in May, he faced three class I felonies, a lower felony class.

Whedbee's wife says he's since been fired from the high school and lost his position as an adjunct professor at Elizabeth City State University.
