June 20, 2008 - A bill in the legislature would force parochial schools to bargain with teachers unions.

House Bill 2626 would change the definition of "employee" under current labor law to include lay teachers in religious schools. State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, D-Luzerne, introduced the bill June 11. The bill is before the House Labor Relations Committee.

The change would force dioceses to recognize and bargain collectively with teachers unions. It also would allow unions in religious schools to bring grievances to the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board.

TT - What a great idea. Just like public schools in Pennsylvania, parochial schools will have teachers who will strike whenever it suits them. Who will also make outrageous demands that will drive up costs so parents can't afford private education. And the parochial school will be stuck with teachers who can't be fired unless they have sex with second graders in the cafeteria with a camera running.
