May 14, 2008 - John Lulay, 59, a former middle school teacher in the North Santiam School District, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse following a secret indictment.

Police began investigating Lulay about three months ago. Since the case involves a child under the age of 14, most of the information will remain confidential.

Lulay worked for the North Santiam School District for more than 25 years. He was first hired in September 1976 as a full-time middle school teacher in Sublimity, then retired in June 2003 and later worked as a substitute teacher.

His next court appearance was set for June 13.

NOT GUILTY PLEA June 14 - Lulay pleaded not guilty in court Friday. Lulay next will appear in court July 9.
