May 15, 2008 - Tanya Boyd, 46, a fourth-grade teacher at Navarro Intermediate School, was arrested after deputies say she brought drugs and a gun onto an elementary school campus. She is charged with possession of less than two ounces of marijuana in a drug-free zone and possession of a weapon in a prohibited place.

An anonymous caller phoned in a tip that sent deputies to the school's faculty parking lot. During a search, a drug-sniffing dog led them to Boyd's car. Reportedly, Boyd had been smoking marijuana in the parking lot during breaks. Police found a marijuana cigarette, several roaches and combination marijuana cigarettes They also found a loaded 38-caliber revolver inside her car.

The school district is providing counselors for all those students who are having a tough time coping with the teacher's arrest. Boyd is on administrative leave with pay.
