Hoboken police are wondering why it took a Hobeken charter school six months before they contacted police about a teacher who was text-messaging students.
It took the school another two weeks to notify parents after he was arrested.

May 3, 2008 - Bryan Cunningham, 37, an assistant teacher at Hoboken Charter School, was arrested on child abuse charges for allegedly sending inappropriate text messages to a 16-year-old student at the school. He was charged with inappropriate conduct that could corrupt the morals of a juvenile, under the umbrella charge of child abuse.

When investigators recently asked the school why they waited so long, the school said they didn't have enough information to bring the matter to the police until March 28, police said. They contacted police April 2. Complaints were initially brought to the attention of school officials six months before the arrest.

Police delayed releasing any information about the matter for the first two weeks after the arrest, in order to allow the school to inform parents. The school refused to comment on the status of the teacher.

Police said that there should be an internal audit at the school to see if there are any more alleged victims or allegations in connection with the incident.
