Rockville Centre, NEW YORK

March 28, 2008 - Anthony Bruno, 24, an assistant football coach at South Side High School, was arrested and charged with petit larceny, 4th degree criminal mischief and filing a false written statement.

He reported that money earned from a football fundraiser was stolen when the coaches' office at the high school was broken into Tuesday night. Police said Bruno kicked in the door to the office, broke into the locker -- and took the cash, while attempting to hide the crime by claiming his own Blackberry had been stolen. Police say he pocketed the $540 collected for baseball hats. He has been fired.

He is a 2006 graduate of St. John's University. He will be arraigned April 7.
