Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA

April 9, 2008 - Ivan Carcelen, 56, a special education teacher at David W. Griffith Middle School, was arrested on suspicion of possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct.

FBI Agents recovered thousands of images of children, many of them classified as child pornography. Laura Eimiller of the FBI says there is no indication that any of the children depicted in the images were students at the school.

The investigation that snared Carcelen was initiated months ago by FBI agents in San Francicso. Carcelen was identified as a subscriber to a child pornography website, Eimiller said

Los Angeles Unified School District officials placed Carcelen on unpaid leave when they were informed of his arrest, according to a district statement.The school also sent children home with a note explaining Carcelen's arrest and that he was no longer welcome at the school.
