New Orleans, LOUISIANA

March 17, 2008 -
Michael Lyons, 36, a teacher at Isadore Newman School, was arrested and charged with five counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. He is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student from the all-girls Mount Carmel Academy.

Investigators say the two met when Lyons taught Mount Carmel and tutored the girl. Lyons gave the girl a cell phone to conceal their relationship from her parents. Lyons was arrested at the Isadore Newman School.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed with Kenner police by the girl accompanied by her parents.

A November 2005 article in the Clarion Herald details how Lyons, his wife, their then 14-year-old daughter, also a student at Mount Carmel, and son evacuated to Lancaster, Pa., after Hurricane Katrina, where he got a temporary job teaching in a Catholic school there.
Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with information on this incident or other incidents to contact the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
