Feb 24, 2008 - Maria Commins, 39, a Greenport Elementary School teacher's aide was arrested and charged with third-degree rape, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawfully dealing with a child after police found her in a hotel room with a 15-year-old boy.
A private investigator hired by the husband notified police who then went to the hotel where Commins was arrested.
The boy is a friend of Commins' son, and both the woman and
the victim told police that they were in love, police said. The school superintendent described her as a "delightful mother of three children." The boy is a student at Greenport High.

Feb 26 - Commins pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Saturday. Court filings made public yesterday reveal that she told police she warned the teenager they "should not be having sex because he is too young. But I love him and he loves me."
The married mother of three, said the relationship started around the boy's birthday and that they'd had sex seven or eight times around Greenport before they were caught Friday at a Riverhead Holiday Inn Express. "I was scared that I was going to get pregnant," she said in explaining why she'd gone to get birth control pills.
Next court date is Apr 8.
