Syracuse, NEW YORK

Jan 14, 2008 - Ronny W. Febres, 39, a teacher's assistant for handicapped children at H.W. Smith School, was suspended with pay on Thursday.

Febres was arrested on Wednesday and charged with first-degree rape and first-degree sex abuse of a a 31-year-old woman.

The incident was not school-related. Febres is married with two children.

NOT GUILTY PLEA July 10 - Febres was arraigned and pleaded not guilty. Febres was also arrested for violating the order of protection against the alleged victim. But his attorney says things are difficult because Febres and the alleged victim live in the same townhouse.
