IT'S SO GOOD TO HAVE ADULTS IN CHARGE.
Jan 10, 2008 - Two vice principals at a school were reprimanded for their handling of an incident in December when police arrested two boys for bringing a 9 mm handgun and a full magazine of bullet to class.
Such reprimands are not usually public but the school district reported the disciplinary action to the media. Notified by a student that a student was carrying drugs and a gun, a classroom teacher contacted administrators who failed to comprehend the seriousness. Not only did the first vice principal not call for security to go to the classroom, but she "handed off" the student to another vice principal who rolled his eyes.
The second vice principal pulled one student from the classroom. After that, the boy was sent back to class. The gun eventually was confiscated after the student who wrote the note went to the school office and again reported the gun. Again.
And one of the vice principals thinks the teacher is over-reacting to the whole thing.
