Jan 26, 2008 - A Florida middle school shut down it's website when one of the links was found to lead to a gay pornography site. The fear was that someone had hacked into the Web site. Later in the day, they determined that the link at one time led to a legitimate educational site. Recently, however, the company that operated the site was bought out and the domain name was picked up by the more gay porn site.

A few days earlier it was discovered that Gulf Middle students who went to the school resource officer's MySpace page could link to a sexually explicit dating Web site. The link was through the resources officer's MySpace "friends."

A WiReD writer thinks investigating the resource officer is the"goofiest waste of law enforcement time we've seen in weeks." There is, however, no formal investigation of the officer.

Jan 20, 2008 - Police are investigating how photographs of male high school water polo players ended up on several gay adult Web sites. Some of the pictures were of boys as young as 14, and were juxtaposed next to photos of nude young men and graphic sexual content, the Orange County Register reported Saturday.

University of California, Irvine police confirmed they are investigating whether a UCI police dispatcher photographed the high school players for gay-oriented sites. The Register found photos of players from 11 Orange County high schools and three other Southern California schools on several pages of one gay porn site registered to a London address.

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, has authored a bill that would make it illegal to use Internet images to inflict harm on children. The proposed Surrogate Stalker Act was prompted by Jack McClellan, who last year photographed children at California schools and playgrounds and placed them on a Web site described by law enforcement officials as popular with pedophiles.
