Jan 31, 2008 - Dionn Holton, 32, a substitute for Long Beach Unified School District, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He is alleged to have sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy.
Holton was arrested after the student told a Cabrillo High School staffer about two incidents that allegedly occurred on campus during school hours in late October and mid-December of last year. Holton was fired on Thursday.
He has been a substitute at half a dozen middle and high school campuses since August 2000. Holton was also an assistant basketball coach for the boys varsity team at Millikan High School.
Holton is the second basketball coach at Millikan H.S. to be arrested on suspicion of sex crimes since the start of the school year.
Head boys basketball coach Raul Olivas, also a mathematics teacher at the high school, was arrested on suspicion of secretly videotaping his 16-year-old stepdaughter in September after
the girl found a camera in her bedroom closet with graphic images of her in various states of undress. TT - entry

Holton is scheduled to be arraigned at the Long Beach Superior Court on Monday.
HEARING DELAYED Feb 4 - Hearing delayed.
"I find it impossible that (Holton) could have done this."TT - Great newspaper coverage and there's a good possibility that before any trial, the Long Beach Press-Telegram can run maybe five or six more stories to help bias a jury against the victim. With any luck, in the Southern California tradition, the newspaper could even get angry and disaffected youth to throw stones through the boy's window and threaten him and possibly burn his house down.
[longtime friend Joe] Luyben said he worked very closely with Holton for three years and he said the 32-year-old husband and father of two [TT - Holton has four.] children was an inspiration to the youths on the St. Anthony's team.
Citing other cases where teachers and coaches have been wrongly accused of misconduct by students who were failing academically or having disciplinary problems, Luyben said it appears as though the school district and city moved too soon to fire Holton from his jobs.
"He now has no way to support his family," Luyben said.
"His reputation is already ruined by the articles and all the other things that have happened."

Close to two dozen supporters filled the gallery of a Long Beach courtroom, and several more waited in the hall Friday, in support of a local substitute teacher charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.SHORT VERSION: His arraignment was postponed.
But they got this in:
A number of his supporters have said they believe the case is like others where students have falsely accused coaches and teachers of crimes to cover up their own disciplinary or academic problems, such as the case if Dominguez High Coach Russell Otis - who was acquitted of molestation charges in April of 2001. [TT and that's a distortion of what really happened.]NOT GUILTY PLEA Feb 11 - Holton pleaded not guilty and he has a private lawyer who is catching up on the case. [Why the mention of a "private" lawyer is another matter that someone ought to examine. Closely.] The Private Lawyer wanted a photographer from the newspaper barred from the courtroom, a motion the judge denied.
The "Private Lawyer" argued that he wanted the case "to be tried in the court," rather than the media. The "Private Lawyer" also accused the Press-Telegram of what he called "inflammatory reporting" on the case for a line in a story that said police were asking anyone with information on the case to call Sex Crimes Detective Hector Nieves. [TT - The "private attorney" is one supplied, not by a union, but by the "community activists" and the "inflammatory reporting" remark is to keep community sympathy. Someone did this to Dionn!!!]
Bail was raised to $150,000. He'll be in court for a preliminary hearing on March 3.
GUILTY AS SIN March 20 - Holton pleaded guilty to both felony charges that he had a 15-year-old boy perform oral sex on him at school last semester. He must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, the prosecutor added. He will be sentenced April 24.
TT - Criminals like this don't have "supporters." They have facilitators in the media, in the legal community and in the hatemongers who destroy community standards. Doesn't matter what the criminal does. He's black; they're proud. And if you don't think their little performances aren't meant to intimidate the victim and influence the D.A., you don't follow Southern California politics close enough.
SENTENCING DELAYED April 26 - Holton and his attorney requested a psychological profile in the hopes of finding a psychologist who will recommend probation so Holton can avoid prison. Sentencing was delayed until May 23.
SENTENCED May 23 - Holton was sentenced to 16 months in prison. He will have to register as a sex offender for life.
Sixteen months was the minimum term imposed by Judge Arthur Jean. Holton's lawyer provided the court with letters from former students, teachers, school administrators, relatives and friends that spoke highly of Holton's character and commitment to the community.
Yet, in a caption under the picture of Holton, the newspaper reported that the student student told authorities it was consensual, but he went to another staffer at his high school for help when Holton became too aggressive.
FAREWELL!!! FAREWELL!!! June 6 - Holton
surrendered quietly to authorities at the Long Beach Superior Court Friday morning.Holton was accompanied by an aunt, who gave him a hug and a kiss and some encouraging words before he was taken into custody, court officials said.
A kiss and some words of encouragement from a relative were the last things the 32-year-old experienced as a free man before deputies snapped handcuffs around his wrists and took him away to begin serving a 16-month prison term.
