Brookfield, WISCONSIN

Jan 18, 2008 - Michael Sprinkel, 41, a social studies teacher at Brookfield East and head coach of the girl's varsity softball team, was arrested after an Internet sex sting.

Sprinkel is accused of using a computer to solicit sex, indecent exposure with a juvenile, and faces one count of pornography. The sex sting is being handled by police in Louisiana.

Jan 19 - Court records filed Friday say that Michael Sprinkel exposed himself using a Web cam while he thought he was chatting on the Internet with a 15-year-old girl when he actually was communicating with a Louisiana police officer. The arrest warrant was filed in Waukesha County Circuit Court.

The perpetrator in such encounters goes online and initiates and engages in exchanges with what they think are underage girls. In this instance, it is alleged that he thought the girl was 15-years-old. The age of consent in Wisonsin is 18. It's 17 in Louisiana.

Jan 21 - Sprinkel is awaiting extradition to Louisiana. He was released on bail on Friday and He was ordered to have no contact with any girls other than his daughters. The school district is investigating and plans to interview students.

The 15-year-old girl turned out to be a police officer. On three occasions, police said he also exposed himself in front of his Web camera, sending video, as it turned out, directly to police.
The school district suspended Sprinkel without pay. Next court date is Feb 6.

An Extradition Hearing is scheduled for April 16, 2008.

April 18 - Sprinkel will go to Louisiana on April 28 to answer the charges, defense attorney Patrick Knight said Wednesday. Sprinkel also has an extradition hearing scheduled May 9 in Waukesha County Circuit Court.
