Midlothian, VIRGINIA

SENTENCED Dec 13, 2007 - Daniella H. Kyriakides, 54, a substitute ** art teacher at Clover Hill High School, was arrested and charged with embezzling money from a school's band booster club.

Police allege that Kyriakides stole about $4,900 from the booster club when she was the club's president and treasurer. Kyriakides has been released pending a court appearance in January.
The incident is still under investigation.

TT - the reason we cover these kinds of stories is because most often the only sentence handed out is probation with a promise to repay the money. That works out fine for the school district and the band club but it is hardly something you want to teach students.
** Substitute - from this article.

SENTENCED (Sorta) Sept 30, 2008 - Kyriakides entered an Alford plea of guilt to one count of embezzlement. She was sentenced to three years in prison -- all suspended. Kyriakides repaid the entire $4,900 sum soon after the club's new treasurer, who discovered the discrepancies.
