Oct 5, 2007 - Willie Bradley, Wilkinson County middle and high school band director, was arrested after he allegedly failed to report a vehicle accident that led to authorities learning he was a wanted man with a criminal history.
He was hired by the school district before his background check was complete.
Wilkinson County Board of Education Chairman Dickie Branan said Monday that Bradley was a late hire and they did not have a band director to start school and it is common for rural counties to hire and have teachers in place before all the background checks are complete. They discovered an outstanding warrant from Newton County and a criminal history in North and South Carolina on Bradley. The criminal history included a felony conviction for entering an auto and one charge of possession of cocaine. The latter charge was later dropped. Police also found Bradley was on probation.
