Mark Carpenter, 54, an assistant principal at Lee Road Junior High School resigned after he was booked with the rape of a 6-year-old girl.
[He] is accused of sexually abusing the girl for 10 years, before he was hired by the St. Tammany Parish public school system, St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain said. The victim in the case is now 26.
Carpenter is being held without bond. The school sent students home with a letter that sought to assure parents that the allegations had nothing to do with the school.
The incidents that led to Carpenter's arrest came to light through recent conversations the woman, now 26, had with her family.
