Beaufort, SOUTH CAROLINA

Oct 8, 2007 - The details of the financial settlement between the Beaufort County School District and a former principal will remain secret.

The Davis settlement has been one of two cases central to the school board's recent debate over freedom of information and, specifically, what it can keep secret from the public.

The district recently settled for $4.6 million with six victims of former Coosa Elementary School teacher Philip Underwood-Sheppard, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison for molesting at least nine students ages 6 to 13.
TT - We're still wondering why the school district was liable.
