Sept 25, 2007 - William A. Milham, 36, a social studies (or history, depending on the news story) teacher at Skaneateles High School, was arr
ested for having sexual contact with a student at the school five years ago. He was charged with three felony counts of criminal sex act. The student was 15 at the time.

GUILTY PLEA March 27 - Milham pleaded guilty to a charge of 3rd degree Criminal Sex Act. The relations between Milham and the student lasted for about three years. He will be sentenced May 22.
Action News discovered that Milham was nominated for our Educator of the Week just six months before the allegations started.

Emil Rossi, William Milham's attorney, said his client had “enjoyed a splendid career as a teacher and as a result of this he has been forced to give all of that up. He has agreed to resign his position and between now and the time of sentencing has agreed to give up his license.”TT - Whenever we hear that a teacher surrenders their license, we wonder what the prosecution gave up in exchange for it. Teachers guilty of sex with students should AUTOMATICALLY lose their licenses. The fact that prosecutors have to bargain with the guilty to get that license shows just how hard it is to revoke a teacher's license. And it gives guilty teachers a bargaining tool no other citizen has.
SENTENCED May 23 - Milham was sentenced to six months in jail - not prison - followed by 10 years' probation. As part of a plea deal, Milham is also surrendering his state teaching certificate. He has been suspended with pay since his arrest.
