A former Bay City commissioner has pleaded guilty to attempting to resist, obstruct or assault a police officer during a June scuffle at a Polish festival beer tent.In exchange for the plea, the Prosecutor's Office has agreed to dismiss the two original charges stemming from the June incident - resisting, obstructing or assaulting a police office, a felony, and drunk and disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.
Kurt P. Legner, who served eight years on the Bay City Commission before being term-limited and replaced on the Commission by wife Wendy in 2005, will be sentenced for the misdemeanor crime on Sept. 11.
The Washington Elementary School third-grade teacher faces up to one year in jail.
Legner's three daughters were there at the time. The deputies did not want to use a taser gun on him in front of three young children.
Legner is looking forward to getting back to his family and his job.
SENTENCED: Sept 12 - He was sentenced to six months' probation, attend an alcohol-education class, pay $745 in costs and fines and be subject to random drug and alcohol tests.
