JURY VERDICT: NOT GUILTY. Faces two more trials.
May 1, 2007 - Jerry Angus, a teacher and softball coach at Spring Hill High School, was indicted by a grand jury for inappropriate contact with one student. The exact charges aren't known.
NewsChannel 5: It's alleged that three of Angus' students were the victims. Complaints by the student's parents lead to the investigation.
Angus was suspended Apr 10 because of the investigation into his alleged actions. Police say more alleged victims have contacted them.
May 11 - Another student has come forward with more allegations. No additional charges have been filed.
NOT GUILTY VERDICT Jan 16, 2008 - After deliberating 30 minutes, a jury acquitted Angus on charges of sexual battery with a 15 year-old student. It is the second trial for Angus , Charges were dismissed at the first trial December 11, by Judge Jim T. Hamilton because the victim failed to testify.
Angus faces one more trial in Maury County on the final indictments of sexual battery by an authority figure. But even if he wins another acquittal in Maury County, he still faces a 17-count indictment in Davidson County, according to court documents.
Angus, who had been released from the Maury County Jail on a $50,000 bond, was arrested Sept. 27 by a deputy U.S. Marshal on the Davidson County charges. Those accusations stemmed from an April 7 incident at the Opryland Hotel involving one of the Spring Hill students named in one of the Maury County incidents.The last Maury trial could be February or March. The Davidson County trial could be in August or September.
