Milford, CONNECTICUT

May 25, 2007 - Tara Johnson, 22, a Jonathan Law High School substitute teacher, was arrested, accused of having an "inappropriate relationship" with an 18-year-old student.

Johnson was charged with second-degree sexual assault after turning herself in at police headquarters. A warrant had been issued for her arrest after a five month investigation.

The arrest followed an investigation that began in December when school administrators told police about the relationship.

She was released on $10,000 bond. Her next court appearance is an arraignment June 12.
The victim was 18 at the time, but state law makes it a felony with a mandatory minimum prison sentence of nine months for anyone in a position of power, including a teacher, to have a sexual relationship with someone under their charge.

TT - Johnson is the 7th substitute arrested this week.

June 12 - Johnson pleaded not guilty. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for July 5.
