ARREST reported May 9, 2007 - Scott Riley, 52, the "unnamed teacher" at Twin Lakes Elementary School was taken away in handcuffs today and arrested for first-degree child molestation. A letter to parents at the school site identifies the teacher as "Mr. Riley," the school music teacher.

May 10 - The Seattle Time still does not identify the 51-year-old teacher who was arrested at the school but they acknowledge that an 11-year-old girl told her mother that she had been molested during band practice on April 16.
The girl told police that she had been struggling with a song and the teacher stood behind her and while she played the teacher squeezed her buttocks repeatedly, according to Federal Way police.

May 10 - The News Tribune: Riley had been accused of sexual misconduct at his previous school district in Nevada, Federal Way school officials said today.
The school district got an anonymous phone call in 2001 alleging the teacher, Scott Riley, committed sexual misconduct with students while an assistant principal at Pahrump Valley High School near Las Vegas from 1993-98.
Riley began working for the Federal Way Public Schools in July 1998 as assistant principal at Decatur High School. The district said it learned “well into” the 1998-99 school year that Riley had disclosed he dated and subsequently married a former Pahrump student.
At Decatur, he had “general performance concerns and issues” in his interactions with adults. Riley was assigned to other administrative duties in spring 2000 because of an angry outburst with a student. SO THEY REASSIGNED HIM TO TEACH MUSIC at elementary schools in 2000.

LETTER TO PARENTS - May 11 - News Tribune has two-page letter to parents explaining their hiring decision.
During the last two months of the 1999-2000 school year, Mr. Riley was assigned to other administrative duties as a result of an interaction with a student where he displayed anger as evidenced by a loud angry voice, and the waving of his arms. Witnesses also reported that, in the midst of his anger, he was unconsciously adjusting his pants in the area of his crotch.[Why did they feel the need to add that last?]

May 15 - The girl did not come forward with the information initially. Her mother read about the incident in the girl’s journal and contacted police, reports said An arraignment hearing is scheduled for May 22.

DOCUMENTS TO BE RELEASED Sept 14 - A judge ordered the release of Federal Way School District records to The News Tribune because information in them already is public in other court records.
Sept 21 - The school district has begun the process to fire Ridley. He has been on paid leave since his arrest.

GUILTY PLEA and SENTENCING Dec 19 - Riley pleaded guilty to assaulting an 11-year-old girl in his music room. Riley did not admit to touching the girl, but did state in court documents that he caused "imminent fear of bodily injury" in the girl.
He was sentenced to one year SUSPENDED sentence and two years of probation. He will not be required to register as a sex offender either.
In Kent today ... King County Superior Court Judge Laura Gene Middaugh also sentenced Riley to 30 days of community service as well as ordered him to undergo a sexual deviancy evaluation and complete all recommended treatment.
Riley resigned from the school effective Dec 31st. He has turned in his state teaching certificate. He has been on paid leave since he was charged, earning his annual salary of $69,094.
ARRESTED (Again) August 27 - After he disclosed during treatment that he touched a relative sexually when she stayed overnight at his home, Riley was charged Tuesday with molesting a young relative about five years ago. He'll be arraigned Sept. 8.
NOT GUILTY PLEA September 9 - Riley pleaded not guilty to first-degree child molestation charges. The relative, now 10, told authorities in July she was four or five years old at the time of the encounter. Next court appearance is September 25.
