Voice message referencing Virginia Tech. "You're Next."

ARRESTED Apr 21, 2007 - Calhoun Community College instructor Penelope Blankenship, 43, was arrested and charged with making the voice-mail threats against herself.

Blankenship is a criminal justice/psychology instructor. According to the Sheriff's Department, Blankenship was believed to have been the target of a threat made against her on her voice mail at the main college campus near Decatur. Campus police also received a threatening phone call in connection with the same incident.

The threatening voice messages made reference to Monday's Virginia Tech shootings, in which a gunman killed 32 people before killing himself. They then said, "you next," according to a campus police incident report.

The caller was initially identified by Blankenship as a former student of Blankenship's, but further investigation indicated that the calls came from Blankenship herself, through Calhoun's switchboard to campus security and to her own voice mail, the press statement said.

Blankenship is on paid leave.

GUILTY PLEA & SENTENCING Nov 24 - Blankenship pleaded guilty Sept. 25 to harassing communications. She was sentenced to a 90-day suspended sentence, 24 months probation and a $250 fine plus court costs.
