RESIGNED:
Feb 27 - Fred Booth, 57, basketball coach, resigned but not before being arrested and charged with criminal trespass for entering the home of a former student. The student had a restraining order against him.
School officials, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, were so concerned with Booth's behavior that they ordered him in the fall of 2002 not to be alone with female students. Despite complaints by a female student and a recent graduate, and a three day suspension, Booth was allowed to continue teaching and coaching.
The letters to Booth were dated Oct. 14, 2002, Oct. 25 and Nov. 30, 2004.
UPDATE: After Booth pleaded no contest in April, the judge found him guilty of trespassing and disorderly conduct. He was sentenced July 2. His 40-day sentence also required he have no contact with the 22-year-old Quinn, but write her a letter of apology.
RELEASED: August 14 - He was released from jail. He wrote a letter to the judge July 27.
The one-page letter said he should not be required to pay the almost $700 in court costs incurred by Quinn [the student] It accuses Quinn and her family of contacting media to "slander me with false allegations." It also blames them and the family of another woman, who also accused him of inappropriate actions, of forcing Booth and his wife to sell their home and move 40 miles away.
"The Quinns could have sat down at a table with me and talked this out. It didn't have to go this far," Booth wrote. Quinn twice got restraining orders that required Booth to stay away from her.
