Tallahassee, FLORIDA

You sometimes think these cases will never come to court. Imagine how long it must seem to victims and their families.

Feb 17, 2007 - Gil Cancel-Comas, 29, a math teacher at Chiles High School until 2004 until his contract wasn't renewed, was arrested and is being held without bail on charges of kidnapping, lewd and lascivious conduct, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and custody interference.

In addition, Howard County authorities have issued a warrant for his arrest for kidnapping. Cancel-Comas made initial contact with a 13-year-old girl on the Internet and they had been chatting for about a year, authorities said. He transported the girl from Texas to Florida where she contacted her family. Cancel-Comas was arrested soon afterward.

ABC reports that police say that there is no indication that there was sexual contact between Cancel Comas and the girl.

"The circumstances in this case clearly sounds a wake-up alarm for parents," Sheriff Larry Campbell said in a written release. "This situation was born on the Internet, grew in chat room conversations and ended with a 29-year-old man driving five states to pick up a 13-year-old child."
