Jan 15, 2007 - Michael Lambdin, a Liberal High School English teacher, has a new trial date.

He was arrested May 9, 2006, and charged with two counts of rape and sexual exploitation of a child. Three more charges, rape, indecent liberties with a child younger than 14, and aggravated intimidation of a witness were added after his arrest.

A plea of not guilty was entered in July. A trial date was set for Sep 13. A new attorney was assigned in August. The trial was set for Nov 6. On Nov 9th a mistrial was declared. The jury reported they could only agree on one of the six counts against the defendant.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin for February 5th.
Update: Feb 6 - The trial has begun.

CONVICTED: Update: Feb 8 - Michael Lambdin has been convicted of one count of rape stemming from an incident with a 6-year-old girl.
The jury found him innocent of a second rape charge. A third was dismissed. Aside from the rape count, the jury also found him guilty of sexual exploitation of a child and aggravated indecent liberties with a child

Update Apr 5 - Lambdin will undergo a mental evaluation before sentencing. He was ordered to Larned State Hospital for no more than 60 days of evaluation. The made the motion after a request by Lambdin's attorney.
