Nov 21, 2006 - Jesse Hastey, 30, Robstown High School science teacher, was denied bond reduction. He was under arrest for two felony counts of an improper relationship between an educator and a student. Actually four students in this report.

During a bond reduction hearing, requested by Hastey's attorney, prosecutors introduced another accusation of improper sexual activity with a student by Hastey plus a charge of sexual assault of a child.

The court had set his bond for $250,000.

Prosecutors say Hastey engaged in sexual activities with a former 15-year-old student who also was a member of the cross country team.

"The suspect would pick her up at home early in the morning," stated an arrest affidavit describing accounts from the accuser. "Twice the suspect took her to his house before practice where they had sexual intercourse

From Corpus Christi Caller-Times: Consensual sex with anyone 17 or older is not illegal in Texas, because 17-year-olds are considered to be adults. But a law passed in 2003 prohibits school employees from intentionally or knowingly engaging in sexual acts with students. The offense, which is punishable by as many as 20 years in prison, is considered a second-degree felony. law

HIV TESTING (Dec 7, 2006 ) Released on bond, the judge ordered Hastey to undergo HIV and drug testing and obey a 9 p.m. curfew. One of his alleged victims, a 17-year-old student told investigators she had unprotected sex with Hastey on two occasions and later learned she had contracted two sexually transmitted diseases

2007 TRIAL RESCHEDULED August 29, 2007 - Hastey's trial has been rescheduled to September 11.

2008 GUILTY PLEA & SENTENCING July 24, 2008 - Hastey pleaded guilty to one count of maintaining an improper relationship with one of his former students. As part of the plea agreement, the former RHS teacher will surrender his educator certification for the state of Texas and serve 10 years of deferred adjudication.

Unlike standard probation, Hastey could be sentenced to as many as 20 years in prison, the maximum punishment for the second-degree felony, if he violates this type of probation
