The practice of holding two elected offices in New Jersey at the same time ends Feb. 1, under one of three ethics bills signed into law Tuesday by Governor Corzine. Incumbents will be allowed to remain in office until their terms expire or they are not re-elected.A fourth bill would make legislators’ voting records on all bills available to the public in electronic format.
Excused from the ban are 17 current dual office-holders in the state Legislature -- including Sen. Paul Sarlo, a Democrat who is also the mayor of Wood-Ridge; Assemblyman Gordon Johnson, a Democrat who also sits on the Englewood City Council; and Assemblyman Gary Schaer, a Democrat who also serves as the Passaic City Council president.
