Colorado Springs, COLORADO

Feb 15, 2008 -
Lloyd Clark, 73, a substitute teacher is "speechless" that he was arrested after allegedly offering money to a student in exchange for sex. He is charged with felony of solicitation for child prostitution.

The incident happened at Wasson High School in Colorado Springs School District 11.

ARREST AFFIDAVIT Feb 20 - An arrest affidavit obtained by 11 News reveals disturbing details about what a District 11 substitute teacher allegedly asked a student to do in a recorded phone conversation.

Documents say 73-year-old Lloyd Clark offered a 15-year-old boy as much as $5,000 to perform sexual acts. The first incident allegedly happened in a classroom at Wasson High School last Thursday. The student immediately contacted the school resource officer.

According to the arrest affidavit, detectives then set up a recorded phone conversation between the alleged victim and Clark. In the conversation, a detective says Clark reiterated the agreement he allegedly made with the student earlier that day.

Feb 27 - Clark, who remains free on $10,000 bail, was ordered to return to court April 23 for a possible disposition.

GUILTY PLEA & SENTENCING (Sorta) September 17 - Clark pleaded guilty to o a charge of misdemeanor harassment, unlawful conduct on public property, as part of an agreement with prosecutors. A felony charge of solicitation for child prostitution was dropped, court records show.

Fourth Judicial District Judge Gregory Werner sentenced Clark to one year of supervised probation, ordered him to relinquish his teaching certificate for a year and ordered that he have no contact with anyone younger than 18 years old except family members.

Clark was the second former teacher this week to be accused of felony sexual misconduct with a student, then to plead guilty to a non-sex-related misdemeanor. A former Lewis-Palmer Middle School teacher and girls basketball coach, Gregory Jackson, pleaded guilty to harassment Monday after being charged with felony sexual assault on a child.
TT Entry for Jackson.

TT - Surely it is the responsiility of the Department of Education to impose sanctions on Clark's teaching certificate. Perhaps the judge didn't trust that they would do anything.

Gowanda, NEW YORK

"When I saw that child's body in the morgue, covered from head to foot with bruises, I cried . . ."

September 5, 2008 - Harold Eisenman, 60, a substitute teacher in the Gowanda school district, was abruptly fired after school officials learned that he was convicted in 1973 of killing his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter by deliberately hitting her in a karate demonstration.

At the time of the girl's death, Eisenman was a substitute gym teacher at Merrick and Bellmore schools. He was sentenced to a term of 2 to 10 years in prison and released in 1982.

Eisenman demonstrated karate kicks to the girl's sibilings by demonstrating on her. He also instructed the 5-year-old and the 8 year-old to kick the child. The mother was convicted of criminally negligent homicide in a separate trial. She sat by and watched as the girl was hit with at least two blows that would have been fatal, including one that ruptured her kidneys. The mother then tried to revive the girl by punching her in the chest and holding her under a cold shower.

After seeing the dead girl's body at the Nassau County morgue, homicide commander Capt. William Meddis said, "When I saw that child's body in the morgue, covered from head to foot with bruises, I cried . . ."
State officials said Eisenman was cleared in 2004 to work as a substitute teacher at the Gowanda school district after falsely claiming his manslaughter conviction stemmed from a reckless driving accident.

TT - State Departments of Education in every state are allowed to give waivers to hire public school teachers who have been convicted of crimes that range anywhere from manslaughter to drug dealing. You would think a felony conviction would preclude any possibility of employment, but it does not.

Most often you find these waivers in state Board of Education minutes. At the New York State Department of Education site, you will NOT find teacher disciplinary actions anywhere. You will find disciplinary actions against other "professionals" in the Board of Regents minutes. (Sample) but NOT teachers.

You can find information about every licensed professional except educators. You can also verify the license of every professional. Except teachers.

UPDATE - CHARGES FILED - September 25, 2008 - Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the arrest of Harold Eisenman, 60, on a charge of lying to the New York State Education Department about his prior conviction for manslaughter in order to qualify as a substitute teacher.

Eisenman was charged today with offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree (class E Felony), which carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison. The case was referred to the Attorney General by the State Education Department.

With his head in his hands, a Ferndale man sobbed as a 14-year-old girl described how he sexually assaulted her for nine years.
[Entry continued here for space considerations.]

Eugene, OREGON

The conviction carries an automatic revocation of her teaching license.

Because of jail overcrowding, she most likely will serve no more than 10 days of the 60-day sentence.

June 6, 2008 - Sarah Bridges, 24, a substitute teacher in the Eugene School District, was arrested on accusations of third-degree rape, sodomy and sexual abuse for an alleged off-campus sexual encounter with a middle school male student earlier this year.

The arrest followed a complaint made earlier in the day by the school district that Bridges engaged in sexual activity with the student off-campus in March. Police did not identify the school where she taught or the age of the victim.
Full Name: Sarah Jayne Bridges

School officials said Bridges taught at all four high schools in the district this year in addition to the middle school. She had been a substitute since September 2006.

June 9 - No age was given for the student, but kval 13 reports that the since all in the third degree, meaning police allege the crime involved a child who is 14 or 15 years old. "Rape" is considered sexual intercourse under Oregon law. "Sodomy" covers a number of other sexual acts, including oral sex. "Sex abuse" is any other sexual contact.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Dan Braziel at 541-682.5836.

GUILTY PLEA & SENTENCING July 17 - Bridges pleaded guilty to one count each of third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy. She was sentenced to five years of probation and 60 days in jail for sexual contact with a middle school-age boy in two off-campus encounters earlier this year. Fremont, NEBRASKA

What can you say?

June 19, 2008 - Julie A. Hamilton, 49, a substitute arrested for stalking a teacher, pleaded no contest to disturbing the peace, a Class III misdemeanor. The plea agreement was because Dodge County Attorney Paul Vaughan said he didn’t believe he had enough evidence to convict her of stalking another teacher, so he entered into a plea agreement.

Hamilton was accused in a case that dates back to 2004 and stems from a disagreement over National Honor Society nominations. Hamilton was accused of leaving letters for her victim - another teacher - and writing graffiti outside of her victim’s classroom. She also was accused of breaking windows of her victim’s house.

Hamilton had been a substitute since 1990. She was fined $500.

Hamilton is the wife of Fremont Middle School Principal Gale Hamilton.

In addition to working as a substitute teacher, Crosby coached basketball in an AAU league.

Update May 17 - Fox8: The investigation began when another student at Reynolds High School told a teacher he has been offered money for sex. Next court date is June 8.

NEW TWIST May 20 - In a new twist, police learned that they were not notified that Crosby had been removed from the substitute roster in response to allegations of sexual misconduct until almost three weeks later when a second boy's family contacted police.

Delayed reporting. The district removed Crosby Apr 3, but Winston-Salem Police were not aware of the allegation until April 23. A Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy school resource officer at the school investigating Crosby stopped his work after learning that the allegation didn’t take place at the school.

The deputy then suggested that the family contact Winston-Salem police, which police said didn’t happen. The County Sheriff's office didn't notify Winston-Salem Police either.

Long Beach, California

- Guilty plea, despite the best efforts of the local newspaper race-baiting rag and community activists semi-professional race-baiters who excuse any conduct, even violation of black youth.

- Sentenced to the minimum in prison and registration as a sex offender for life.

- The sendoff to the big house was touching.

Jan 31, 2008 - Dionn Holton, 32, a substitute for Long Beach Unified School District, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He is alleged to have sexually assaulted a 15-year-old boy.

Holton was arrested after the student told a Cabrillo High School staffer about two incidents that allegedly occurred on campus during school hours in late October and mid-December of last year. Holton was fired on Thursday.

He has been a substitute at half a dozen middle and high school campuses since August 2000. Holton was also an assistant basketball coach for the boys varsity team at Millikan High School.

Holton is the second basketball coach at Millikan H.S. to be arrested on suspicion of sex crimes since the start of the school year.

Head boys basketball coach Raul Olivas, also a mathematics teacher at the high school, was arrested on suspicion of secretly videotaping his 16-year-old stepdaughter in September after
the girl found a camera in her bedroom closet with graphic images of her in various states of undress. TT - entry

Long Beach police asked anyone with any information about Holton's possible contact with other children to contract Det. Hector Nieves at 562-570-7368

FAWNING Feb 2 - Holton a "former Poly High School basketball stand-out" and "West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year in 1995 at the University of Portland" working the same community where he grew up, etc, etc. etc. story in the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

Holton is scheduled to be arraigned at the Long Beach Superior Court on Monday.

HEARING DELAYED Feb 4 - Hearing delayed.

"I find it impossible that (Holton) could have done this."
[longtime friend Joe] Luyben said he worked very closely with Holton for three years and he said the 32-year-old husband and father of two
[TT - Holton has four.] children was an inspiration to the youths on the St. Anthony's team.

Citing other cases where teachers and coaches have been wrongly accused of misconduct by students who were failing academically or having disciplinary problems, Luyben said it appears as though the school district and city moved too soon to fire Holton from his jobs.

"He now has no way to support his family," Luyben said.

"His reputation is already ruined by the articles and all the other things that have happened."
TT - Great newspaper coverage and there's a good possibility that before any trial, the Long Beach Press-Telegram can run maybe five or six more stories to help bias a jury against the victim. With any luck, in the Southern California tradition, the newspaper could even get angry and disaffected youth to throw stones through the boy's window and threaten him and possibly burn his house down.
--------------------------------
Feb 8 - Awesome reporting.
Close to two dozen supporters filled the gallery of a Long Beach courtroom, and several more waited in the hall Friday, in support of a local substitute teacher charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.
SHORT VERSION: His arraignment was postponed.

But they got this in:
A number of his supporters have said they believe the case is like others where students have falsely accused coaches and teachers of crimes to cover up their own disciplinary or academic problems, such as the case if Dominguez High Coach Russell Otis - who was acquitted of molestation charges in April of 2001. [TT and that's a distortion of what really happened.]
NOT GUILTY PLEA Feb 11 - Holton pleaded not guilty and he has a private lawyer who is catching up on the case. [Why the mention of a "private" lawyer is another matter that someone ought to examine. Closely.] The Private Lawyer wanted a photographer from the newspaper barred from the courtroom, a motion the judge denied.

The "Private Lawyer" argued that he wanted the case "to be tried in the court," rather than the media. The "Private Lawyer" also accused the Press-Telegram of what he called "inflammatory reporting" on the case for a line in a story that said police were asking anyone with information on the case to call Sex Crimes Detective Hector Nieves. [TT - The "private attorney" is one supplied, not by a union, but by the "community activists" and the "inflammatory reporting" remark is to keep community sympathy. Someone did this to Dionn!!!]

Bail was raised to $150,000. He'll be in court for a preliminary hearing on March 3.

GUILTY AS SIN March 20 - Holton pleaded guilty to both felony charges that he had a 15-year-old boy perform oral sex on him at school last semester. He must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, the prosecutor added. He will be sentenced April 24.

TT - Criminals like this don't have "supporters." They have facilitators in the media, in the legal community and in the hatemongers who destroy community standards. Doesn't matter what the criminal does. He's black; they're proud. And if you don't think their little performances aren't meant to intimidate the victim and influence the D.A., you don't follow Southern California politics close enough.

SENTENCING DELAYED April 26 - Holton and his attorney requested a psychological profile in the hopes of finding a psychologist who will recommend probation so Holton can avoid prison. Sentencing was delayed until May 23.

SENTENCED May 23 - Holton was sentenced to 16 months in prison. He will have to register as a sex offender for life.

Sixteen months was the minimum term imposed by Judge Arthur Jean. Holton's lawyer provided the court with letters from former students, teachers, school administrators, relatives and friends that spoke highly of Holton's character and commitment to the community.

Yet, in a caption under the picture of Holton, the newspaper reported that the student student told authorities it was consensual, but he went to another staffer at his high school for help when Holton became too aggressive.

FAREWELL!!! FAREWELL!!! June 6 - Holton
surrendered quietly to authorities at the Long Beach Superior Court Friday morning.

A kiss and some words of encouragement from a relative were the last things the 32-year-old experienced as a free man before deputies snapped handcuffs around his wrists and took him away to begin serving a 16-month prison term.
Holton was accompanied by an aunt, who gave him a hug and a kiss and some encouraging words before he was taken into custody, court officials said.

TT - Kinda like the Good Ship Lollypop with a cheery reporter from the Long Beach Press-Telegram waving farewell in print to a fond friend. Reality check. How many felons do you know who get coverage when they show up to go to prison?
