Mountain View, CALIFORNIA

June 5, 2007 - In pursuit of improved scores on California standardized tests and advanced placement exams, the Mountain View-Los Altos Union School District is revamping its social studies curriculum. They're elminating a Facing History course that focused on teaching about the Holocaust and "other genocides" (and training social justice activists) to concentrate on boosting test scores.

The non-profit Facing History and Ourselves is based in Massachusetts. The Facing History-type courses are taught at 40 South Bay schools.

TT - You can't help wondering if public access, especially by parents, to standardized testing scores was a factor.
