May 15 - Alvin Turner, 32, a band director at South Leake High School, resigned in January. He is now on trial for molestation of a student. He reportedly hugged her too long. [No further information.]
The school superintendent did not report the incident to authorities after being notified.
Update May 17 - Alvin is NOT on trial. A probable cause hearing is being conducted. The judge asked prosecution and defense to submit closing arguments in response to the burden of proof the law is responsible for in the case.
Wikipedia: In the United States, a probable cause hearing is the preliminary hearing that typically takes place after arraignmentt and before a serious crime goes to trial; the judge is presented with the basis of the prosecution's case and the defendant is afforded full right of cross-examination and the right to be represented by legal counsel. If the prosecution cannot make out a case of probable cause the court must dismiss the case against the accused.
