Jan 31, 2007 - Todd Clowery, assistant Principal at Wilson Elementary School, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault. He was charged with gross sexual imposition for fondling a 12-year-old in a movie theatre.
According to an assistant prosecuting attorney, "What the State of Ohio wanted was his teaching license." He surrendered his license. As part of the plea, Clowery will have to seek counseling and submit to polygraph tests, but will not have to register as a sex offender.
WCPO also shows original story. Clowery created his own website to write about his innocence and "counts the days to his trial and comments on his hearings." [Link to site no longer works.]
Clowery arrived at the courthouse surrounded by family and friends. With his brother and his parents by her side, his wife made it clear she supports Todd and believes he is innocent. The defendant says he expects supporters to be back out here tomorrow. [That was before the guilty plea. And, "Clermont County prosecutors also intend to present testimony of two women who allege Clowery previously fondled them with his bare feet while in the pool at his apartment complex."]
Cowery is married with three children.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 1.
Feb 1 - More details are emerging about the case the prosecutors were going to present.
After the incident in the threatre five witnesses that Clowery acted as if he were mentally disabled when he was confronted in the cinema lobby.Apparently, Clowery even suprised his own wife with his guilty plea.
“(It was) incredibly odd, because he acted as though he was retarded,” Breyer said. “He was crying, ‘Let me go, let me go,’ to the extent that the little girl said, ‘If he’s disabled, if he’s retarded, I don’t want to get him in trouble.’”
When details of the case appeared last year in local media reports, four other women came forward to tell authorities they’d been victims of similar behavior by Clowery.
Update Mar 1 - Clowery was sentenced to three years probation. Clowery won't be allowed to teach or be a school supervisor in Ohio for three years, and must receive counseling for what the judge called a “serious problem.” Walker said Clowery also must continue with current therapy for “other issues,” which the judge didn’t specify.
In addition, he is also barred from:
-- Going into the cinema in Eastgate or any other movie theater without a supervisor approved by a probation officer.
-- Having any unsupervised contact with children other than his own.
-- Working in or visiting a school or any business that caters to children, including amusement parks, video arcades and roller rinks.
-- Contacting the victim or her family.
-- Buying or viewing pornography.
His wife was in court but declined to comment. He also has forfeited his teaching license.
