GOVERNMENT OFFICIALLY DROPS CASE.
Oct 29, 2007 - Retired teacher Robert Christie, 71, a math teacher at Tillamook High School, was arrested by the FBI. He is thought to be the "Waddling Bandit." He is accused of robbing 20 banks from from Kelso, Washington to Medford, Oregon.
The robber’s image was captured on bank surveillance cameras. Investigators dubbed him the "Waddling Bandit" because of the way he walks. They've been searching for him for two years.
Nov 5 - His lawyer wants house arrest for Christie, described as "a millionaire retired teacher."
He and his wife own about 20 rental properties and a 140-acre farm in Tillamook. He reportedly has assets worth about $4 million, and his lawyer says his client doesn't need to rob banks.
CHARGES DROPPED Dec 18 - Christie's attorney today faxed the family a Dec. 14 letter on U.S. District Court letterhead with the news the case against the former math teacher had been dropped.
"On the government's motion and for good cause shown, it is hereby ordered that the complaint against the defendant, Robert Alexander Christie, is dismissed in the interest of justice."Terri Wood, the attorney for Robert A. Christie, said the government dropped the charges against him due to lack of evidence, and witness reports that gave him an alibi for some of the robberies
ALL CHARGES DROPPED.
May 10 - The FBI paid for all his legal fees.
