Sept 14, 2007 - Defense attorneys are challenging the sentencing of Jonathan Johnson, former coach in the Sonoma Valley Unified School District. Johnson, now-24, was charged with 74 counts involving lewd acts and sexual intercourse with 14 underage girls, six of them under age 14 between 2000 and 2002.
He was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison and 24 concurrent life terms for offenses committed against girls under age 14.
The defense attorneys are saying Johnson did not receive effective counsel at trial and he actually faces 171 years in prison because the state parole board will add seven years to his sentence for each concurrent life term if they follow their regulations.The District Attorney says the lawyers are wrong in their calculations.
